There is so much information available online, in books, and on social media that sometimes we just don’t know where to start! From this diet, to this ‘superfood’, it can feel so overwhelming, especially if someone is telling you one thing and then you read somewhere it can mean the opposite.
There is no magic pill, diet or superfood, the biggest factor is BALANCE!
Nutrition plays a huge part in our life, and if we are not fueling our bodies correctly, it can then impact on our health, our mood, our energy levels, concentration, decision making – the list goes on.
Just like a car needs petrol/diesel to run optimally, our bodies need a varied, healthy, balanced diet, to ensure we are getting all the nutrients needed to function at our optimal levels and to fuel us for our daily activities!
I am not a dietician or nutritionist. I am not about weighing foods, calorie counting or fad diets. I believe being aware of portion sizes and eating mindfully, with wholesome foods that are nutritious and clean, is the way forward.
As a Specialist Personal Trainer, I value the importance of consuming a varied, healthy, balanced diet, to help optimise our overall health, energy levels and mental wellbeing.
To ensure we are consuming a balanced diet, there are 3 main macronutrients:
- Protein – helps to build and repair muscle and bodily tissues
- Carbohydrates – main energy source of the diet
- Fats – provides protection for internal organs
- And 2 micronutrients;
- Vitamins – help regulate growth, health and physical wellbeing
- Minerals – help to support normal functioning of the body
As I am often posed the question ‘What should I be eating?’ I decided to create a Charity Cookbook that is able to describe in more in-depth the components of the diet as well as striving to inspire others to cook wholesome home made meals.
My Charity Cookbook provides simple, yet affordable food ideas covering the whole day, that not only honour balanced, healthy eating, but creating something that is easy to follow with step-by-step instructions on all recipes. I fully appreciate that we are all human and we like the odd take-away, sweets, cakes, alcohol, chocolate, crisps etc. But it is remembering that they are there as the occasional treat and not daily indulgences. This is why I have also included lots of healthy snacks and clean baking ideas.
“I’ve been really enjoying the Healthy Recipes Cookbook. The recipes are very varied, and the nutrition information about the components of the diet at the beginning is very interesting. An excellent book, thank you Abbie!” – Hilary
