“Abbie has taken the time and trouble to research particular exercise programmes pertinent to vestibular dysfunction in order to help my recovery. Abbie has been nothing short of amazing! Her calm, compassionate manner was so helpful in me getting my confidence back, working slowly with basic exercises and then building up at my pace.“ – Julie
I have always wanted to be able to offer support and guidance to as many individuals as possible, whether that is for personal reasons of increasing in physical strength and fitness, to also being able to use exercise for rehabilitation or recovery purposes.
Whilst studying my degree in Sports & Exercise Science, I was fortunate enough to complete four additional qualifications, including Level 3 GP Referral and Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation qualifications.
I knew from the outset of completing my degree, I wanted to help and support as many people as possible using exercise and movement as for both preventative and rehabilitation reasons. Many years on, I have a wealth of experience of working with many individuals with many different conditions and general aches and pains.
As with everything, we are all individual and our bodies respond differently to certain exercises and movements. Through my supportive and compassionate approach, I am here to find exercises that will be most beneficial for you to try and improve pain and symptoms. I am an exercise professional, not a GP or a physiotherapist, therefore I will never diagnose or treat any condition. If I feel that something is out of my scope of practice, I will always signpost you towards a professional.
Below is an outline of my specialist areas and how I can best support you:
Pilates
Supporting individuals through the holistic movements of Pilates. All exercises are centered around the Pilates principles of Breathing, Control, Concentration, Core Centering, Precision and Flow. An excellent type of exercise that is suitable for any level, recovering from specific injuries or looking to build up core strength and stability. I am able to provide private individual Pilates sessions as well as small group sessions.
Pre & Post Natal
Supporting women through every step of pregnancy and postpartum through suitably selected exercises. It has been shown that exercising throughout pregnancy can not only help to support you throughout labour, it improves cardiovascular fitness, reduces the risk of gestational diabetes and weight gain, improves sleep and improves mental health and wellbeing. Recovery from pregnancy can also be challenging. With my support, I can help guide you to safely rebuild both core abdominal and pelvic floor strength, as well as helping you to gradually rebuild your strength and fitness to supporting you to feeling more yourself and time to focus on you.
Menopause Wellness
Supporting women through their perimenopause and menopause journey to continue living their lives to the fullest. I am here to offer advice and guidance to further support managing stress, healthy diet and movement habits, sleep and ways to promote self-care and being kinder to yourself.
GP Referral
Through having this qualification, it allows me to support and work with individuals who may suffer from specific conditions. This includes, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, non-specific lower back pain, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, supporting mental health conditions of both anxiety and depression and asthma.
Joint Pain Support
Supporting individuals with mild-moderate osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, non-specific lower back pain, hip and knee replacements (8 weeks post-surgery) or just general aches and pains by gradually increasing strength in the major muscle groups to help support the joints.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Supporting individuals who may have experienced a cardiac event that have required possibly surgery and/or stents fitted (individuals would need to have completed phase III of Cardiac Rehabilitation through the NHS prior to any further on-going support). I can also support increasing and improving fitness and diet habits to help reduce a potential cardiac event.
